Battambang
| View Map | | Battambang means ‘disappearing stick’, and is named after a powerful
stick used by a legendary Khmer king to
achieve and maintain power.
French colonial architecture is evident in this quiet town sitting on
the banks of the Sangker River at the heart of Cambodia's 'rice bowl'.
All forms of transport are available to get to Battambang – pick-up
trucks, trains, speedboats and airplanes. The nearby countryside
harbors old pagodas, Angkorian era ruins, caves, waterfalls, and even
Khmer Rouge period
killing fields while its main attractions are Wat Ek Phnom, Phnom
Sampeau, Wat Banan, Kamping Puoy and a crocodile farm. Local goods of
marble sculpture, woodcarvings and sapphires dominate the souvenir
market. | | Kep
| View Map | | The city of Kep was founded in 1908 during the French colonial times
and later renovated into a beautiful seaside resort. Located southwest
of the Royal city of Phnom Penh it offers a variety of tourist
attractions such as natural mountains, evergreen tropical forest,
mangroves, islands, sea grass coral reefs, pure sea air, beaches, and
sea food. | | Phnom Penh
| View Map | | The capital of Cambodia with its broad boulevards and colonial ambiance
reflects the era when the French were present in IndoChina. Located at
the confluence of two rivers, Phnom Penh also has some excellent
markets and fine temples. Tree-lined boulevards still reflect the
elegance of the city's French colonial past. | | Siem Reap
| View Map | | Nestled between rice paddies and stretched along the Siem Reap River,
the small provincial capital of Siem Reap town serves as the gateway to
the millennium-old temple ruins of the Khmer Empire. Designated a World
Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses
dozens of temple ruins including Bayon, Banteay Srey and the legendary
Angkor Wat whose artistic and archaeological significance and visual
impact put it in a class with the Pyramids, Machu Pichu and the Taj
Mahal. Unlike many other world class monuments, the ruins of Angkor are
as yet unspoiled by over-development. | | Sihanoukville
| View Map | | Sihanoukville is Cambodia's main beach town. Lay back and relax on its white sandy beaches whilst you enjoy
fresh seafood of crab, prawns and ocean fish, which has always been one of the town's biggest attractions.
Sihanoukville's ample supply of accommodation includes a 5-star resort complex on Sokha Beach, several mid-range places
downtown and at the beaches, three-star hotels and budget guesthouses and a variety of restaurants and bars. | |
